Festival of wine and bleak – Virpazar (Skadar Lake), 2011

One of the great traditional events during the winter in Montenegro is Festival of wine and Bleak in Virpazar, small place on the Skadar Lake. This year, because of huge amount of rain days, Festival of wine and bleak start with little delay. But this was good decision, because this days we have wonderful weather in Montenegro, and atmosphere is absolutely great.

Fresh and smoked bleak (one rare sort of fish, live in Skadar Lake) was served on every step. Great Crmicko wine, traditional red wine from Montenegro, domestic food, other specialities, … This is just small part of this great Festival.

We visit today this great event and we enjoy very much. There was many tourists and people from Montenegro. Music, wine, food, barbecue, nice people, sunny weather … What you can more expect. Here we present you some nice photos from Festival of wine and bleak:

For all who do not know what is bleak, here is some short explanation :

The Bleak is a long, slender, flat sided cyprinid fish with an almost straight back and a small typically superior mouth. Its body is covered with large, loose scales, grayish green/blue on it’s back with silvery sides and a white belly. It can be found frequenting slow-flowing to stagnant waters, feeding from the surface during the daytime, retiring to deeper water during the evening and night. The Bleak has a life span of three to six years and can grow in length to 17 -20 cm.
